Big Twist in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Update Throws a Curveball at Mickey & Maggie’s Reunion Story

The latest update for The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 throws a major twist into the potential reunion between Mickey and Maggie, leaving fans wondering what’s to come next. While Netflix offers a variety of great lawyer shows, its adaptation of Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer remains one of the platform’s most beloved original series. The show follows the gripping story of Mickey Haller, Los Angeles’ top defense attorney.
Despite facing numerous difficult cases, season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer ended with Mickey in a precarious position: he’s now the defendant after a police officer discovers Sam Scales’ dead body in the back of his car during a potentially unlawful search. This situation will bring all of Mickey’s close ones together. Fans had been hoping for a Mickey and Maggie reunion in season 4, especially with the news that Yaya DeCosta’s Andrea Freeman wouldn’t return and Maggie would be featured in all 10 episodes. However, the newest update for season 4 throws a wrench in those expectations.
Maggie McPherson’s New Boyfriend In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 Will Complicate Her Romance With Mickey
Maggie Will Be In A Relationship With A Man Named Jack Gilroy
The conclusion of The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 neatly set the stage for Maggie and Mickey to rekindle their relationship early in the season, rather than later, as she would be there to support him during the Sam Scales murder trial, following the book’s storyline. However, this potential reunion may be in question following Deadline’s recent revelation about new cast members. Jason O’Mara is set to join The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 as Jack Gilroy, Maggie’s boyfriend.
The announcement reveals that Jack Gilroy is a sports medicine-specialized orthopedic surgeon who works with athletes in Southern California. It’s still uncertain how long he and Maggie have been a couple, as she doesn’t reference him at all in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3. However, given that Maggie only appears in two episodes, their relationship might have been discussed off-screen.
Her boyfriend complicates any reconciliation between Mickey and Maggie. On top of the fact that they parted on a sour note the last time, Maggie will also be emotionally unavailable, which could leave Mickey pining for his lost love. Then again, Mickey will have much bigger issues to deal with, given the sheer amount of evidence in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4’s Sam Scales case. Romance might be the last thing on his mind.
Will Mickey & Maggie Get Back Together In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4?
Mickey & Maggie Could Still Get Together Based On The Law Of Innocence
Although they might not get together early in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4, Mickey and Maggie will probably get together by the end of the season, if the book is any indication. Jack doesn’t exist in The Law of Innocence’s story, and I don’t recall any subtle references to Maggie having a boyfriend. However, Mickey is actually in a relationship with Kendall Roberts through most of the book. He questions whether he should stay with her and longs for Maggie on and off through the book.
It looks like The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 will reverse the roles for Mickey and Maggie but maintain the overall timeline. Instead of Mickey being in a relationship with Maggie single, the dynamic will shift, with Mickey being available and Maggie in a relationship. This change will allow Mickey to focus on the dire legal situation that could potentially land him in prison for life. At the same time, Maggie’s involvement in his murder trial could demand so much of her time and emotions that it may strain her relationship with her boyfriend.
The main adjustment from The Law of Innocence will be how Maggie and Mickey reconnect at the end. In the book, the exes grow closer during the trial, but the pandemic forces them to decide whether to stay together or apart. They ultimately quarantine together. Since The Lincoln Lawyer is set post-pandemic, Maggie and Mickey may not face the same urgency in deciding the future of their relationship.
